Child Safety Online indicators


Incidents and Risk-prone behavior Indicators
1. Proportion of children who have undertaken the following Internet activities in the last 12 months by age group of child and by gender
a.         Purchasing or ordering goods or services
b.         Playing or downloading video games or computer games
c.          Downloading movies, videos, images and music
d.         Watching TV or video, or listening to radio or music
e.         Posting messages to chat sites, social networking sites, blogs, newsgroups and other online discussion forums; use of instant messaging
f.          Uploading selfcreated content (text, images, photos, videos, music etc.) to any website to be shared           

This indicator refers to the number of children who have used the Internet for one of the specific activity/purpose mentioned, divided by the total number of children who have used the Internet during a defined period of time. 
 
2. Average time children spent online each week in the last 12 months by age group of child and by gender             
This indicator considers the average time spent in terms of hours in ranges of : <5, 510, 1120, 2130, 3140, >40.
It is calculated by taking the total time the children spent online in a week, divided by total number of hours in a week.           
 
3. Proportion of children who have ever met anyone facetoface that he/she first met on the Internet by age group and gender of child      
The number of children who have made offline meetings (face-to-face) by age group and gender that originated from online encounters.
This is calculated by taking into consideration the number of children who have made offline meetings divided by the total number of children who have make online encounters.
           
4. Proportion of children (by age group and gender) who have:
a.         ended up on a porn site accidentally when looking for something else
b.         received pornographic junk mail by email/instant messaging
c.          been sent porn from someone they met on the Internet    
This indicator is calculated by taking the number of children who have been exposed to activities with explicit sexual subject matter in one of the mentioned circumstances divided by the total number of children who use the Internet.  
 
5. Proportion of children (by age group and gender) who have ended up accidentally on a site that was hostile or hateful to a group of people          
This indicator is calculated by taking the number of children who have been exposed to sites that were hostile divided by the total number of children who use the Internet
 
6. Proportion of children (by age group and gender) who have ever ended up accidentally on a site with violent or gruesome pictures (e.g. gory or nasty images of people being hurt)          
This indicator is calculated by taking the number of children who have ended on websites containing violent or gruesome pictures divided by the total number of children who use the Internet
 
Preventive Actions Indicators
7. Proportion of parents who do not allow their children to do the following Internet-related activities (at home or elsewhere) by age group of child and gender
 
a.         Give out personal information
b.         Buy goods or services online
c.          Talk to people they don’t know in real life
d.         Spend a lot of time online
e.         Create a profile in an online community
f.          Use chat rooms
g.         Download movies, videos, music
h.         Download or play games
This indicator is calculated by taking into consideration the number of parents who do not allow their children to do one of the specific activities mentioned divided by the total number of parents who do monitor their children when they use the Internet.
 
8. Proportion of preventive measures taken by parents at home related to:
 
a.         Placing computer in a public area in the house
b.         Installing Internet filter software
c.          Installing monitoring software
d.         Talking to the children about what they are doing or did online
e.         Sitting with their children when they are using the Internet
This indicator can be measured by taking the number of times a specific preventive measure has been opted divided by the total amount of respondents.
