Following the publication of the Measuring the Information Society Report 2017 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Mauritius has been ranked at the 72nd place in the ICT Development Index. The IDI which is a powerful tool for monitoring progress towards a global information society ranks the performance of 176 economies with regard to ICT infrastructure, use and skills.
The country has gained 3 ranks compared over last year (ranked 75th in 2015) and has improved its score by 6.7 percent. It is still first in Africa followed by Seychelles (90th) and South Africa (92nd). The IDI score for Mauritius is well above the world average of 5.11.
