Following the publication of the Measuring the Information Society Report 2017 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on 15th November 2017, Mauritius has been ranked at the 72nd place in the ICT Development Index. The IDI which is a powerful tool for monitoring progress towards a global information society ranks the performance of 176 economies with regard to ICT infrastructure, use and skills.
Mauritius has gained 3 ranks compared over last year when it was ranked in the 75th position. The country is still first in Africa and is followed by Seychelles (90th) and South Africa (92nd). It is worth mentioning that with an IDI score of 5.88 Mauritius is the only country in Africa which is well above the world average of 5.11.
The report also mentions Mauritius as one of the most dynamic countries in the African region with major improvements being noted in terms of ICT Access and Infrastructure.
